Month-End Reflection

I decided to try posting every day during the month of August. It began in late July when I had some time away from work and nowhere special I needed to go. So I started creating and scheduling new posts. I tried some new ideas and revived some old ones.

I was curious to see whether I could still author daily posts as I did when MBS was at its peak. It's good to know that I can.

I also wondered what effect frequent posting would have on my readership numbers. The verdict there is less clear. Overall hits were up a bit, but individual posts received fewer hits, presumably because they were on top for a shorter time. Comments were also up.

        What I (Re)Learned During August
  • Many guests read only the most recent post

  • Most readers don't visit every day

  • Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are not good days to post content that you want people to read

  • MBS readers love posts where they can be involved

  • They like familiar features, but they also respond to something new and different

  • MBS readers like when I talk about spankings and share my experiences

  • The most read post was In with the New

  • The post that generated the most comments was Never Have I Ever

  • No matter what I post or how frequently, this blog is unlikely to attract the traffic volume we saw during its heyday because audiences today are divided among many more outlets

  • Randy is going to spank me for obsessing over blog statistics
Thank you, friends, for joining me on this journey!

Friday, Saturday and Sunday are the days when I see a lot of blogs posting, more than any other days. So posts then are up against a lot of competition from other blogs and from readers social lives. That's my theory, anyway.

I smiled at "Randy is going to spank me for obsessing over blog statistics" Hopefully it will be a good spanking and you will post about it. I vote for otk with a homemade paddle.

I admire that you were able to come up with so much cool stuff daily. Yeah... I miss the heyday of blogging with thousands of views. But we die-hards will keep it going.

Prefectdt - I hadn't considered that explanation. I figured people were doing things other than reading blogs on those day. You may be right.

Anon - It was a good one. Thanks.

Erica - This was an interesting experiment. As we move into fall and my class resumes, my time will be more limited. But whatever the pace, ever forward we go!

Interesting observations Bonnie, I agree about the weekend posts, people are otherwise busy . I really enjoyed your daily posts. Kudos for managing it lol

I appreciated the added content. And, if it only costs you a long, hard spanking, I think that's a fair trade.

I agree that readers enjoy being involved in a post.

I don't go to my blogging browser and read every day, so I may have missed a few posts. Like many others, I tended to go for the top (latest) post. Added to that is the Blogger restriction on the post list of ten latest updated blogs, so it's easy to miss new content.

Hugs,
Hermione

I hope you get a nice spanking . You did put in a lot of effort.

Roz - Thank you!

RP - Truth be told, it was a lovely spanking. Definitely worth it.

Hermione - Yes, I think as bloggers, we seek an ideal balance between publishing often enough that readers want to return regularly and not so often that they miss some of your best content.

Anon - Randy put significant effort into my spanking and it was just what I needed. Thanks!

I want to thank you for all you have shared.I sometimes have computer issues and cannot comment as much I I hoped, but I did want you know that I do check your blog two or three times a day and because of that I do not read it every time I visit.I do appreciate all your spanking experiences especially otk.I really thank you for the blog roll as I do check many of them every day as well.your comments on the other blogs has been of a great help as I go to them for the reasons you stated and that I try to visit them often as well. Thanks again for all you do and have shared.have a great day.

Jim - I greatly appreciate your continuing support. Bloggers post for our readers. Without you, there would be no point.

It certainly seems archaic but perhaps newer blog readers do not have the benefit of using an RSS feed reader. Blogsare a pull content unlike those god awful push services from Meta and Twitter that are tightly linked with tracking clients/cookies in their mobile apps and web interfaces.

Kids these days want their content delivered to them like some kind of subscribe and save, Uber eats, subscription gift box service

An RSS feed reader can simplify staying on top of content and without third party tracking depending on the client. Perhaps you could post a couple links to mobile feed readers that can keep readers spoonfed with your latest content.
