Decision Time

It seems I have a decision to make and I would like your advice. I've enjoyed following friends on Twitter. But recently, Twitter implemented widespread censorship. Most of the content on most of my favorite Twitter sites is now blocked. It's Twitter's Tumblr blunder.

So my question is how to respond. Do I (1) eliminate links to all Twitter sites? This was my initial reaction to Tumblr's mass purge. Do I (2) go through the links one by one and keep only the sites that still have some worthwhile content visible? Or do I (3) leave the links as they are for the benefit of readers who have accounts and can presumably see the blocked content.

For (1), I worry about depriving readers of access to sites that are fine. For (2), it would be a lot of work to keep track of which sites are mostly blocked and which are still viable. For (3), I'm not sure how I could figure out which sites have gone stale when I can't see the posts. Also, I dislike the idea of wasting readers' time with links to blocked sites.

I've never had a Twitter account and it appears that I can't get one. Someone created an account using my email address years ago and and I cannot get into it or reset it.

So what do you think?

Hi Bonnie,

I don't have a Twitter account either so don't visit these sites personally. That sounds like a lot of work for you. I would leave the links as they are. Most readers should be aware of this and that content may be blocked.

Like Roz, I do not have a twitter account and I agree with the advice she gave.

I agree just leave the links the way they are. You have enough to do, if not go ask Randy for a spanking. :)

I also don't have a Twitter account so I don't know what people can see it not see.I also advocate for not doing extra work for yourself as while we do appreciate all that you have posted and share as a great resource I don't think trying to monitor them is a lot more work for you and with all that you already do you would burn out pretty quickly.some blogs are dormant for a long time and it would be harder to check those as well. Thanks again for all you share and your stories about your spanking experience.have a great day.

I agree with others -- you have enough to take care of. That's a lengthy task. I would just leave them as is.

Hi Bonnie, I agree with others - leave the links as they are.

Everyone - The last thing I expected was an unanimous response. On that basis alone, I should listen to you, and I mostly will.

Time spent working on the blog doesn't worry me. For me, it's an investment in community. If I can reduce the size of the blogroll without depriving our readers, that seems like a win. This is how I imagined this question. But clearly, you want the Twitter links to stay. And so they will, mostly.

Thank you for your feedback! It made me think.

Like the other commenters, I don't have a Twitter account, and only go there when I see something that CNN's Chris Cillizza says would be interesting. So as the Beatles said, let it be!

I see no need for you to get caught up in that mess. Let things ride as is.

You could create a new email account on a different site than you use now - and sign up for Twitter, If it doesn't provide what you're looking for - at least you tried.
