Meme: The Shuffle

I saw this meme on another blog and figured it might be fun.  The idea is to put your iPod on shuffle and list the title and artist for first twenty songs that come up, no matter how strange or embarrassing.

Here's my list.
  1. Downtown - Petula Clark
  2. Sweet Jane - Lou Reed
  3. Our House - Crosby Stills Nash and Young
  4. Hold on Tight - Electric Light Orchestra
  5. Me and Baby Brother - War
  6. Billy Jean - Michael Jackson
  7. Words - Missing Persons
  8. I Get Around - The Beach Boys
  9. The Letter - The Box Tops
  10. I Only Wanna Be with You - Hootie and the Blowfish
  11. If You Leave Me Now - Chicago
  12. You Wear It Well - Rod Stewart
  13. Band on the Run - Wings
  14. Fat Bottomed Girls - Queen (LOL!)
  15. Come Dancing - The Kinks
  16. Play On Love - Jefferson Starship
  17. One More Night - Phil Collins
  18. Lady - Styx
  19. Run through the Jungle - Creedence Clearwater Revival
  20. Love is All Around - The Troggs
I wouldn't say it's an embarrassing list (and it could have been), but I am struck by the fact that all of these songs are OLD. Sure, I love classic rock and all that, but I would have thought at least one song from this millennium might have popped up. As you see, that didn't happen. I guess that says something about my musical tastes.

I screamed when Fat Bottomed Girls started playing. That's just so silly and so borderline on-topic for this off-topic post!

Bonnie,
Thats a WONDERFUL list!!!
Actually the one that popped out at me was Band on the Run by Wings....wow now that one takes me back. All of them were great, I'm not even sure why but I think I will be having that song stuck in my head the rest of the night.

I have to go do the same thing. My wont be nearly as fun though. Can I borrow your IPOD????

Bonnie, I love your list. All the stuff on my iPod is older as well; lots of 50s and 60s, surf instrumentals, British Invasion. Out of nearly 700 songs, I have a whopping ONE Lady Gaga song and one Rihanna song. Oh, and Bad Things by Jace Everett, which is used as the theme song for True Blood.

Oh, and I too have Hold On Tight, Come Dancing and Run Through the Jungle. :-)

Bonnie,

I can relate to most of those songs as well, and frequently hear them on the oldies radio station we listen to. The Kinks and the Troggs - oh yes!

Unfortunately I can't do this meme. You can't shuffle cassette tapes!

Hermione

Bonnie, I think "Fat Bottomed Girls" is the theme song for most spankos!

I don't POD I SANSA and it does not have a shuffle feature,if it did it could be quite interesting as most of what is on there is Musicals and music from Ren Faires!

Wonderful choice of music Bonnie. Kinks, Rod Stewart and the Queen, my favourites. Takes me back a bit.

Thanks Bonnie.

Great stuff Bonnie. It could very well be mine. I probably have 18 out of 20 on my own player.

Just reading the list made me want to listen to them. Some back to High School memories!

Your list could be mine, too, except for one or two. I have a lot of Ray Charles and Willie Nelson, some Glen Campbell and even John Denver. But Rod Stewart is always my fave.

I will try it later and see what happens. I hope a Doc Tsai audio file doesn't pop up!

Love the list. Some of those I haven't heard in ages, but they inspired me to find and download them. Thanks.

Bonnie
What a great list...
Most of these songs I played on the radio when I was broadcasting in the laste 70s and early 80s.
I wonder what mine would look like, I don't have Apple products but other
mp3 players... I bet most would be country spngs as that is the music of choice these days... with some JT and Carley Simon thrown in for fun.
GREAT off topic blog...

Too funny Bonnie ... it must be a generational thing ... although our top 20 was not the same 15 of your songs appeared in my top 50 (16 actually because I had 'The Letter' twice ... by the BoxTops and Joe Cocker) ... I was also sadly lacking in very many new millenium sounds with the exception of Coldplay who are just a bunch of hippies anyway ... Cheers RH
