Frustration

OK, I screwed up my blog a week ago and didn't realize until today when CeeCi kindly educated me.

For people using Firefox, it looked normal. For those using IE, however, it looked like the night of the drunken templates. Yuck. My sidebar was down at bottom of the page! When I saw it, I was horrified. I pride myself on keeping a neat, tidy blog. This simply would not do.

At first, I thought I knew how to fix it. It had to be a template problem that occurred when I added a wide Web ring table earlier in the week. Readergirl's suggestion fit right in with this theory. I messed around with squeezing things in the sidebar for at least an hour. By then, I was miserable and in tears.

LA Girl suggested that I try removing things from the sidebar one by one until the problem went away. That made perfect sense and I wish I had been wise enough to think of it myself. By this time, Randy had returned my urgent phone call. He guided me through the process of commenting out lines in the template. I mostly know about HTML and such, but I wasn't a very attentive student today. I was still too freaked out. Finally, we had commented out virtually everything and the problem remained.

About the time we were concluding that it wasn't the sidebar itself, Guy offered a great suggestion. He had encountered this kind of a problem before after changing the format of dates in comments. Aha! I thought. I did something very similar last week. Alas, changing it back fixed nothing.

Finally, Guy came through with a second idea that ultimately saved the day. He had me look at one of my posts from nearly a week ago. It was code I had copied from a quiz. Sure enough, there was a table in there that was too wide. Once I changed it to a narrower width, all was right again.

Thank you, everyone! Guy, you're my hero!

Now, even if I can't get a theraputic spanking tonight, I at least need to talk about one.

Reader,

Thank you! The too-wide theory was what I figured. I've been busy for the last hour trying to make things skinnier over there, but no luck so far.

hey bonnie... i've had this happen before, and it occured when i changed a comments setting to add information to the comment line... as i recall it was changing the way the date displayed...

what it did was drive the combined body and sidebar over the template width (800 pixels)...

so it could be that, or something else that similar...

in any case... relax... you'll get it... i hope this helps !!

Quiz: Your Favorite Spanking Position?

I think the table size (600) in the post exceeds the main content size (520) in your template...

I suggest you copy the post into a word processor before deleting it...

Again... I hope it helps... g

LA Girl - That was a good suggestion. With Randy's help (via cellphone), I tried commenting out sections one by one, but even with all but the title gone, it was still shifted to the bottom. However...

Guy - When I read your first suggestion, I was sure you were right. I had indeed fooled around with the display of the date in comments a couple of days ago. Alas, changing it back didn't help.

Finally, I looked at the post mentioned in your final suggestion. Bingo! That was it. As soon as I reduced the size of the table generated by that infernal quiz, life was back to normal. Whew!

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! Guy, and all.

Now I have to go back and try to fix all of the changes I made when I thought my template was fouled up.

What really bugs me is that my blog was basically unusable for more than half of my readers for nearly a week (right after Dan mentioned MBS in the Spanking Blog)and I had no idea. I'm just mortified.

I took a whole different kind of spanking tonight.

Pink - My trouble is that I wasted a whole lot of time looking in the wrong place. Since the sidebar was shifted, I figured that must be the cause. Until Guy suggested otherwise, I wasn't even looking at my posts.

Janeen - Believe me, I was trying to channel you through all this episode. I just kept getting a message that the line was busy. :O

I know just enough about HTML to be a danger to myself and others. Being well aware of my deficiencies, I focused upon my code. In the end, it was someone else's code. I hadn't considered that possibility.

Guy - Thank you again! You're wonderful.

I'm glad you got it worked out Bonnie. I know just enough to be dangerous with HTML too, just ask Guy... lol. He's cleaned up more than a few of my messes I think. Have a good weekend! :)

Little - Thanks. You two are wonderful!

The hairbush was always one of my favorites in reality and fantasy. I could never find the perfect one. I wanted a little more sting with the same thud, and plastic ones just didn't have enough thud. I finally made my one "hairbrush paddle" It's handle is slightly longer than a normal brush, with an ovel head that is flat on one side and rounded on the other. The rounded side has quite a bit more sting.

Hi Mike!

I've seen hairbrush paddles and they looks as though they would be every bit as effective as the original. Plus, as you note, there is the posibility for two different sides.

You bring up a good point that I neglected to mention (and here people thought I had said everything there was to say about spankings with a hairbrush). I'm convinced that the rounded, convex shape of many hairbrushes makes them more painful by concentrating most of the blow over an even smaller area.

Thanks for your contribution!
