Stars and Stripes Forever

For readers here in the US, today is the day to salute all those who serve the cause of liberty. Let us not lose that spark lit 232 years ago, but keep it strong, cherish it always, and allow it to light our path.

So, when you and your partner casually wander away from the picnic today and into the woods to cut a fresh switch, stop for a moment to give thanks for all of the good things in our lives. Then you can lay down a nice set of stripes in honor of Old Glory.

Happy Independence Day!

Bonnie, hear hear, congratulations on this auspicious day.
Your message is valid for all who value freedom whether in the U S or elsewhere.
Warm hugs,
Paul.

Bonnie, happy Independence Day. I hope you and Randy enjoy some 'fireworks'!

We in Canada gained our independence by simply waiting 300 years then signing a piece of paper!

Hugs,
Hermione

Hey Bonnie would you accept a 232 birthday spanking for the U.S.? :-D

Sorry, but the American people lost their spark of liberty when they voted in George W Bush.

al, this is not a political blog, so if you want to spew your hate go to the Huffington Post or Moveon.org where it is welcome, but leave us spankos alone. I am thankful for a country that allows free speech. I have been on the other side and it was intolerable.

Sorry, Bonnie, I apologize if I have offended you or any of your wonderful readers.

Everyone - I hope everyone in the US had a great holiday. For our many friends around the world, please forgive us this annual indulgence. For most of us, it's a time of parades, picnics, fireworks, and joining together with friends and family.

The post you see was cut down from a longer text that discussed my vision of a better America, a place of tolerance, generosity, wisdom, and civility. I decided, as Ivana correctly points out, that others talk politics far more effectively than I can.

Let's remember at this time not only the basic freedoms that we cherish along with all vanillas in creation but also the freedom to write to sites such as this, share our views, support each other, and so forth. Were it left up to certain elements among us, we'd be living in a theocratic state in which we'd post to this site at risk of job loss, a heavy fine, or perhaps even jail time, not to mention having our children taken by the state to be "raised right."
