Cool poll!!! For me, it was while reading historical romances!!! Every time I read the part where the handsome hunk of a hero dragged the beautiful, fiesty heroine over his knee for a well-deserved spanking, I practically melted!!!
Guess that's why I write spanking novellas for a living!!! *grin*

I think I was mildly interested in it early on. Does anyone else remember the old woman nursery rhyme?
There was an old woman
Who lived in a shoe,
She had so many children
She didn't know what to do.
She gave them some butter
Without any bread,
Then whipped them all soundly
And sent them to bed.
I used to have a big book of nursery rhymes and there was an illustration of this one, of an old woman spanking a boy, with crying children ahead of the boy and nervous, anxious children waiting in line behind the boy. I was enthralled with that. Also, any spanking in cartoons I was so intrigued by. But I didn't really associate spanking with sexuality until much later, at least 17-18.
omg...I remember that story; I remember reading it almost everyday. My book may have been a little more PC, I remember it saying she "spanked them all soundly". The other thing was that the picture showed little stars coming from the bottoms of a little boy and girl that already been spanked. I was so fascinated by that picture and any other cartoons I could find.

Everyone - I find it really interesting that a slim majority of us (me included incidently) gained our special interest before puberty. At that age, it probably wasn't overtly sexual, at least not in any adult sense.
Tigger Too - I remember a lot of books that contained spankings. I recall reading and rereading the same few passages hoping to learn a little more about how it felt to be spanked in a romantic context.

I remember having a book of nursery rhymes that included the old woman in the shoe. The accompanying picture depicted a whipping machine where she turned a crank that rotated a shaft to which were attached four switches. Each switch was striking a different kid's unfortunate bottom. Needless to say, I was fascinated.
SugarPie - Oh yes, cartoons! I remember plenty of spankings in those old cartoons. Often it wasn't just a few choice swats depicted, but an entire spanking. I would lie alone in bed late at night and replay them in my mind. In my imagination, though, I would be on the receiving end. I guess my dream came true!
I remember my first spankinf fantasy must have been when I was VERY young, because my biological father was still around (we're talking age 3), an incident I'll always remember - but am not yet ready to share. The short of it is that he thought I was having a nightmare. I wasn't sure what was happening.
The first time I became mentally aware though was while watching a cartoon "Stickin around" where the kids were afraid of getting detention because of a machine that the principle was rumoured to have - a spanking machine. That's not what they called it. I was always one to hope that that episode would run again.
Now I am of age and seriously interested in having my bottom soundly smacked. I've wanted it since I was fifteen and could associate it with sex.

I had vague punishment dreams when pre-7 (cannot quite place exact age), but I think the idea of being smacked for it came through when about 8 or 9, and I started playing it with a school friend (very mildly). I was never actually spanked by my elders at any time.
Pre-7, I also wanted to be tied up, probably after seeing pictures in story books. I treasure these early feelings because they part make me who I am.
